Dipingere le nuvole (Painting Clouds) is a reflection on the work of the artist, referencing one of Alex Urso’s past job experiences. For a period during his studies as an art student, Urso painted houses to earn money and support his art research. Dominating narratives of art are modelled on a series of clichés: the bohemian artist, the prophetic poet, up to the most recent understanding of the artist as a “self-manager.” But is all this true? What jobs do artists do when they are (not) artists?

Using these questions as inspiration, Urso came up with a series of 365 photographs taken every day for a whole year. The subject of each picture is the artist himself, embracing the roller, painting the clouds as a symbolic action.
