A Place Called Home is a collective project developed by Alex Urso during a series of residencies in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park. In collaboration with Legambiente (the most prominent environmental association in Italy), the artist met students from schools in various mountain villages facing depopulation.
The work with the students aimed to answer various questions: What is an archive? What does a photo album tell us about our personal and collective experience? How can the story of a community be transformed into a narrative that is alive and rooted in the present? With these questions as the overriding theme, the participants created a series of artworks, taking inspiration from old pictures belonging to their families. The final installation was permanently placed in the Ravinella Park of Ligonchio (Reggio Emilia).
